Audioboom’s Casefile True Crime has returned to the top spot in the October Triton Podcast Ranker, and the first time since the metrics change to listener numbers, with the show this month publishing seven episodes, up on last month’s four.
It is also the first time that LiSTNR/SCA’s Hamish and Andy podcast has not been top in total listener figures since the change, as the pair moves to second spot, despite higher total listens than in September while also producing one less podcast.
Total downloads for October continued to increase, reaching a new high of 55.1 million, the largest total for a month since the monthly ranker was started by Commercial Radio Australia.
The monthly ranker provides a list of the top 100 podcasts as well as the top ten publishers in Australia, between 1 October to 31 October, measured by Triton Digital.
Aside from the change at the top, the list remains unchanged through positions three to eight, with ARN/iHeartMedia’s Life Uncut with Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne following Hamish and Andy, then Nova’s The Update and 7am from Shwartz Media rounding out the top five.
ARN/iHeartMedia again topped the list for the publishers, with just over three million total monthly listeners, while LiSTNR (SCA) followed closely in second.
ARN’s head of digital audio, Corey Layton said: “Since launch, the iHeartPodcast Network Australia has been committed to delivering the best audio content to our audiences, and being named as Australia’s #1 Podcast Network for the 18th consecutive time is an unbelievable achievement. With more than 19 million monthly downloads, and half the top 10 podcasts, we now reach even more Australians by delivering quality shows that they know and love, as well as serving our commercial partners across all our platforms.”
Chief content officer, Dave Cameron said: “SCA is proud to be Australia’s biggest audio content creator and publisher of audio content and the Podcast Ranker shows that people are consuming a vast array of content from comedy, sport, news and opinion, finance and culture. The number of talented creators and producers we have signed to LiSTNR, and our amazing radio talent are a privilege to work with as audiences continue to make digital audio part of their everyday lives.”
There was several debutants in the list, with Wondery’s SmartLess coming in at 23, followed by Over My Dead Body, also a Wondery production, debuting at 24, and BondiBadlands from Nine Publishing at 39.
Participating publishers include Audioboom, ARN/iHeartMedia, DM Podcasts, Equity Mates Media, Hidden Brain Media, Kinderling Kids Radio, LiSTNR (SCA), Motorsport Podcast Network, News Corp Australia, Nine, NOVA Entertainment, Podshape, Schwartz Media, Sports Entertainment Network (SEN), Stitcher Media, TOFOP Productions, The Chaser, Wavelength Creative and West Australian Newspapers.
